Membership

It buys nothing. That is the entire proposition, and we would rather say so than invent something to hand you.

What membership is

A recurring or one off payment to Glow Gazette that goes towards the cost of researching, writing, illustrating and publishing Glow Gazette. That is the whole of it.

What you get

The magazine, which you already have, because everything here is free to read and always will be. There is no paywall, no metered access and no plan to introduce one.

What you do not get

  • No members' area, forum or community.
  • No bonus essays, extended cuts or archives behind a login.
  • No early access. Everyone reads it at the same time.
  • No merchandise, tote bag, print or discount code.
  • No events, no calls, no ask me anything.
  • No name in the credits, unless you write and ask, in which case yes, gladly.

We could invent several of these in an afternoon. We have not, because a perk is a promise, and a magazine that has quietly become a delivery mechanism for tote bags is a different magazine.

Why it is structured this way

Every other way of funding writing about beauty pulls the writing towards commerce. Affiliate revenue rewards recommending things. Display advertising rewards volume. Sponsored content is commerce wearing a byline. Membership is the only line of income we have found that gets larger when the work gets better and does not get larger when the work gets more useful to a seller.

How to do it

Write to the address on the contact page and we will send payment details. There is no membership platform, no card vault and no subscription you have to hunt through a settings page to cancel. Stop paying and nothing happens, because nothing was gated.

What we will publish about it

Once there is anything to report, the newsletter will carry a plain annual note on what came in from members, listings and sponsorship, and what it was spent on. We are not publishing a figure now because we do not have one, and a projection would be a made up number in a magazine that spends its time objecting to made up numbers.

No commercial links. This article contains no affiliate links, no sponsored placements and no product recommendations. Glow Gazette is published by Glow Gazette and does not sell coverage, links or favourable mention. Paid entries appear only in the listings and are labelled there. What we will not sell is set out in the editorial standards.

The Gazette, four times a year

One long letter a quarter: what we have been reading, what turned out to be untrue, and what is worth going to see. No selling, because we have nothing to sell you.

Sponsor lineEach issue carries one sponsor line, labelled as such and set apart from the writing. Sponsors are shown the rate card, never the copy. See the rate card.
