Listings

A paid, alphabetical, factual index of places and programmes relevant to the history of beauty. It is currently empty, and here is why.

Status

The listings are empty. No organisation has bought an entry yet. We would rather show you an empty page with the rules on it than fill it with unpaid entries that make the section look established, because that would mean the first paying entrant was buying the credibility of institutions who never agreed to be there.

What a listing is

A paid entry for a museum, archive, gallery, exhibition, historic house, university department, short course, lecture series, conservation programme or cultural festival whose subject touches the history of beauty, dress, cosmetics, perfume, hairdressing, hygiene, portraiture or material culture. It is an index entry, not a review and not an endorsement.

What an entry contains

Only facts the buyer supplies and we can verify against the organisation's own published material:

FieldVerified against
Name of the organisation or programmeIts own site or a public register
Place, and whether it is physical, online or bothIts own published information
Dates, for anything time limitedIts own published information
One sentence of description, in the buyer's wordsChecked for factual claims only
Cost of attendance, or freeIts own published information
A link, marked so that search engines do not read it as an endorsementResolves to the named organisation

The rules

  • Alphabetical. By organisation name. There is no other order and no way to buy one.
  • Labelled. Every entry carries the word paid. The section header says paid.
  • Never a ranking. No stars, no scores, no editor's picks, no featured tier, no best of.
  • Factual only. We remove superlatives, marketing adjectives and unverifiable claims from submitted copy, and we tell the buyer what we removed.
  • No editorial effect. Buying a listing does not make an article more likely, less likely, or different in tone. We do not tell writers who is listed.
  • Refusable. We decline entries that are not relevant, that we cannot verify, or that sell cosmetic products, treatments or clinical services. See what we will not sell.

What it costs

Listing rates are published on the rate card alongside the newsletter sponsor line, so that a buyer and a reader see the same numbers at the same time.

How to be listed

Write to the address on the contact page with the six fields above. We will confirm what we can verify, tell you what we cannot, and quote from the published rate. If we cannot verify a field, it does not appear. If we cannot verify enough of them, we decline and say why.

No commercial links. This article contains no affiliate links, no sponsored placements and no product recommendations. Glow Gazette is published by Glow Gazette and does not sell coverage, links or favourable mention. Paid entries appear only in the listings and are labelled there. What we will not sell is set out in the editorial standards.

The Gazette, four times a year

One long letter a quarter: what we have been reading, what turned out to be untrue, and what is worth going to see. No selling, because we have nothing to sell you.

Sponsor lineEach issue carries one sponsor line, labelled as such and set apart from the writing. Sponsors are shown the rate card, never the copy. See the rate card.
